In Honor Of International Women’s Day, Here Are 3 Inspiring Women

Today, International Women’s Day, is a global day to celebrate the many achievements of women across social, political, cultural and economic grounds. It also serves as a call to action for advancing gender equality with speeches, protests and events happening around the world.

IWD has been honored for over a century, with the first IWD in 1911 supported by over a million people gathered in central Europe. Before this, the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom’s Suffragists and Suffragettes, and other groups campaigned for women’s equality.

Today, IWD belongs to all groups, everywhere. It is not set for a specific country, group or organization. Make it your day, every day.

This year’s campaign theme is #balanceforbetter. A balanced world is always a better world, so the goal for #IWD2019 is to encourage a more gender-balanced world by celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about gender biases, and taking action for equality.

Fatty Sundays is a certified women-owned business founded by sisters Ali and Lauren. And, our small team is comprised predominantly of women. Today is an important day for us, and in today’s post we are honoring this special day by featuring three female women and entrepreneurs who have seriously inspired us.

J.K. Rowling

A single and struggling mother with a seriously creative mind wrote a book series that brought kids back to reading and imagination again. Her Harry Potter books have become one of the best-selling books of all time, leading to major feature films and even a theme park. She has made the lives of millions of children (and adults!) happier, everywhere in the world. The first person to become a US-dollar billionaire by writing books, she gave up her billionaire status by donating generously to charity. Such an inspiration!

Ellen DeGeneres

A high-earning female entrepreneur who also makes us laugh. Ellen went from amateur stand-up comedienne to super successful talk show host who worked hard to build her business and brand. She’s one of the most successful and most-loved media giants around. She got her big break with her own sitcom show Ellen, but she faced a lot of challenges and hatred when she came out, and the show was cancelled. That didn’t stop her though, and now she’s stronger than ever with The Ellen DeGeneres Show having a serious fanbase and following, including us!

Oprah Winfrey

The winner, hands down, is Oprah. Oprah is a self-made, multi-talented media giant, with The Oprah Winfrey Show awarded the longest-running daytime talk show ever to have aired, lasting a total of 25 seasons. She is not only one of the richest female entrepreneurs in the world, but she is also one of the most well-liked and well-known. She isn’t in the business of business, but rather the business of people, showing the kind of intimacy and warmth with her audiences that no other talk show host of her time had. We love you, Oprah!
