PB+J Flavor Feature: A Q&A With Co-Founder Ali

Pssst! We’re talking all things peanut butter this fatty Sunday. As we all know, chocolate and peanut butter are a match made in sweet heaven. So here at Fatty Sundays, we have not one but two pretzel flavors with peanut topping! Today we’ll be featuring one of our original flavors, the PB+J pretzel, made with creamy milk chocolate, roasted peanuts, and a hint of raspberry. Mmmm. It’s a nostalgic treat that brings you back to lunchtime at the middle school cafeteria.

While younger sis Lauren’s favorite are the minty Peppermint pretzels, older sis Ali loves the PB+J flavor the most. Read on the learn more about this timeless flavor with a special Q&A featuring sister and co-founder Ali!

So PB+J is your favorite flavor, but it isn't necessarily a bestseller for FS. Why is it your favorite?

I'm PB+J anything obsessed! It's the peanut butter flavor sweetened up by the raspberry flavor that I love so much. It's just so unique  on a chocolate covered pretzel yet such a familiar flavor combination for me. PB+J was also one of our original flavors so it holds a special place in my heart/belly!

As the packaging designer for Fatty Sundays, was PB+J your favorite box to design? If not, which one was?

I do love the color of our PB+J box. The magenta is so bright and colorful! It's right up there for me with the Sea Salt Almond which is an orange box. Those 2 colors are my favorite, especially together. I'm obsessed with the way those colors look printed on the kraft paper. If I had to pick a 3rd favorite, I'm really into the black Salted Caramel box these days. It's so cool and classic!

We're getting hungry! What goes great with a PB+J pretzel?

A glass of milk (I'm very into almond and oat milk these days and do occasionally have a glass of them with dessert!) I also love having PB+J pretzels with soft serve yogurt. Chocolate is the way to go.

How old is the PB+J flavor? How did you think of it?

It was an original flavor so it's about 7-8 years old! I remember thinking we had to do a PB+J flavor since it's such a classic. Then we started experimenting with flavoring the chocolate with natural oils. The raspberry worked wonders and the topping was simple and straightforward - roasted peanuts! The combination of flavors, paired with milk chocolate, is just to die for.

FS also has a Peanut Butter flavor. Tell us about the differences, and why the two?

We created Peanut Butter since people would always ask us if we had it when they saw we had PB+J! Peanut Butter and chocolate is also a tried and true flavor combination that people go nuts over (pun intended!) Peanut Butter is the safer flavor, but if you like PB+J, it's not be be missed. The only difference is the raspberry flavor in the jelly!

You must be a peanut butter lover. What are some of your other favorite peanut butter snacks?

I'll put peanut butter (smooth or crunchy) on anything! Toast (with honey!), rice crackers, apples...  you name it. I also put it in my oatmeal and yogurt. I've enjoyed my fair share of Bamba lately too, since my daughter Ruthie loves it!

Get ready to stock your lunchbox with these sweet and salty pretzels. They’re perfect for kids, adults, and everyone in between!
